Tree Removal Necessitates Partial Vanderbilt Road Closure
The Town of Biltmore Forest will be undertaking a tree removal project along Vanderbilt Road beginning next Monday, May 7th through Wednesday, May 9th. You may have noticed orange ribbons marking the area around trees or the roadside north of the I-40 bridge heading toward All Souls Crescent. There are 8 extremely large, hazardous white pine trees that are in various stages of decline. The Town has contracted to remove these, but in order to do so safely, we will have to close the road for a portion of time to have a crane on site and allow our road crews to perform the work of breaking down the trees and transporting them to the brush yard.
The Town is sensitive to this being a main thoroughfare and wanted to lessen the impact of the closure as much as possible. As a result, the road will be open during morning and evening commutes and will close each day between 9:30 am and 4:30 pm. The Town will provide ample signage regarding the detour route (detailed below) and police officers will be at each detour location to provide guidance and assure safety of those working and traveling along the road.
Road Closure Location
Vanderbilt Road will be closed just south of the side entrance to the Doubletree Hotel on Vanderbilt Road. The second barricade/closure will be located at the turnaround area just south of the Interstate 40 bridge.
Detour Route
Travelers heading north on Vanderbilt Road from Biltmore Forest toward Asheville will be asked to detour along Cedarcliff Road or at Busbee/Hendersonville Road. Those traveling south from Asheville toward Biltmore Forest will be asked to detour up Hendersonville Road and may access Vanderbilt Road again at Cedarcliff Road or Busbee Road.
Road Closure Dates and Time
Monday, May 7 - Wednesday, May 9
9:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m. each day
Work is anticipated for three days, but may take shorter or longer depending on conditions once work begins.
